How to get healthy hair

Image 1. Click to open in original size.

Here are a few tips to get and maintain healthy hair.

1 Stop using heat when styling your hair. No blow dryer, flat iron or curling iron!
2 Do you still want to use heat sometimes? Use heat protection.
3 Throw away that plastic brush! Use a tangle teezer or wide tooth comb instead.
4 Throw away your hair ties and hairpins too. Use hair sticks and scrunchies.
5 Sleep with a braid or silk hat.
6 Keep your hair tied up as much as possible to avoid knots.
7 Don’t dye or bleach your hair.
8 Cut out sulfates, use a sulfate free shampoo or only conditioner.
9 Never brush you hair when wet!
10 Switch your regular towel to a cotton T-shirt or sheet.
11 Make sure your hair gets moisture. Use hair masks.
12 Cut away the split ends, either using S&D or trimming.
13 Try not to wash your hair too often.

What are your best tips for a healthy hair?

I wash my hair almost everyday. I have thin hair but a lot of it and it tends to look greasy very easily. Even if I shower and don't wash my hair I still feel dirty, so that's why I was it so often. Everyone tells me to not wash it everyday because it strips the natural oils! Almost all my girlfriends wash their hair like once a week. So perhaps washing your hair less can keep it healthier but I dunno. Confused

#1 Great tip, i forgot about that. I will add it to the list. πŸ™‚ Are you addicted to the newly washed feeling or is your hair really getting greasy after just one day? If it gets greasy fast you might be using too rich shampoo/conditioner. Or maybe you use a lot of styling products?

I think its a little bit of both! Also, if im not washing my hair everyday I get dandruff. At the moment Im using organic coconut shampoo and conditioner that is free from all the bad stuff. If I use shampoos and conditions that are from the grocery store, like head and shoulders or wella, then my hair tends to get less greasy, but from what I understand those are not good for your hair. Im not using any hair products.

#3 Is your shampoo free of sulfates? Because then maybe you have a build up in you hair that the shampoo can't wash out.  That can be the reason it gets less greasy with traditional shampoo. πŸ™‚

#5 Sulfate is a harsh chemical, but if you have any residue from styling products or moisturizing cream etc, a sulfate free shampoo may not be able to get everything out of you hair. and If the conditioner contains silicone it will eventually build up asweel. Maybe try a silicone free sulfate shampoo as a deep clean once. πŸ™‚
